Taxi Hike in Singapore

The recently effected Taxi fares increase in Singapore is Huge. I was just taking a Taxi from Sim Lim Square to Kim Seng Road(where Zouk/Great World City is) at 5pm. Guess what is the total cost of the ride? S$10. Yes.. S$10 for a smooth ride with hardly any traffic congestion.

The starting Extras once you get onto the Taxi is already S$4 together with a meter fare of about $2.60 (That's $6.60 already). On top of that, each time the meter fare jumps, the extra will jump a whooping 35% of the increase in the meter fare.

One thing's for sure, the number of people taking taxi during peak hours will significantly reduce. Talking to the taxi driver, this is exactly what is happening. A ride from Woodlands to Tanglin Mall in the morning during peak hour is ranging around the S$30 mark.

The marked increase is due to public complaint about difficulty of getting cabs within the city limits during peak hours. However, the reason for that is Taxi drivers do not want to enter the ERP protected areas in fear of incurring the additional cost.

Anyway, good bye cheap travels in Singapore.
